An invitation to attend a first annual Empty Bowls Supper

Dear People of Hoboken: I am a fifth grade student at the Hoboken Charter School. I am writing to invite you to something called the New Jersey Empty Bowls Supper. This is an event where we try to raise money for the homeless shelter so they can buy food for people who don’t have enough to eat. How we want to raise money is to sell tickets at $6 each for meals served on Saturday, April 8 at 12 noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. All will be served at the Hoboken Clergy Coalition Shelter on the corner of Third and Bloomfield streets. The meals will not be big and fancy, but will be plain and simple, just like a homeless person’s meal at the shelter each night. When your meal is over there will be a display of homemade bowls made by students at the Hoboken Charter School and from around the community. You will be invited to take one of these bowls to remind you that there are still empty bowls out there and that it is our job to do all we can to fill the empty bowls. If you would like a ticket, please call the Hoboken Charter School at 963-0222, ext. 221. All the money we raise will be matched by the New Jersey Coalition for Service Learning. Faith Enrico Fifth Grade Student at HCS P.S. If you are busy and can’t make the event you are welcome to make a donation. Please make checks payable to the Hoboken Charter School.
