Dear Editor: My name is Elizabeth Cohen and I am the coordinator of the Hoboken Chapter of the Million Mom March. The Million Mom March is a planned march on Washington D.C. on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2000. The purpose of the march is to rally mothers and others from all over the United States to mobilize for common sense gun control. We are dedicated to the mission of educating our children and our country about the life-threatening dangers of guns. Although we realize that guns are an essential part of hunting, law enforcement and national security, we are concerned by the proliferation of firearms used only for killing other humans. The Constitution protects our right to life and particularly the rights of our children to live and thrive. Therefore, we invite other concerned folk to rally with us on Mother’s Day 2000 and call on Congress to enact sensible legislation.
