Soccer Club attracts players and volunteers alike

Dear Editor: The Jersey City Youth Soccer Club has been in existence for over two years. It has attracted players and volunteers from all walks of life and recently concluded our third recreation season. It has participated in the Lipton Youth Soccer League where travel or select players from different age groups (U8, U10, U12) play on Sundays representing one of three Jersey City organizations. That’s right!!! We are one of three. Councilman Mariano Vega has pursued and works for the benefit of youth athletic recreational programs here in Jersey City, adding to the increase in the quality of life for all citizens of this City. Everyone at Jersey City Youth Soccer Club is particularly thankful for Mariano’s continued commitment to soccer. He has demonstrated strong support when he introduced us to the Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs so that a place to play our travel and recreation games would be provided; when we needed equipment, such as soccer balls. All the children and coaches were provided one, thanks to Councilman Vega. He has been instrumental in finding additional practice space for both outdoor and indoor activities and he has even sponsored two of our teams. Councilman Vega has witnessed the passion of our young players, their coaches and their parents. He recognizes that “recreation soccer” is the vehicle to introduce soccer, develop players and bring more soccer players to a higher level and beyond. Mariano, thank you for your continued support!
